Who is the little chilli?
Nong Prik, Ravela's own character. He's learning Thai too, and you'll meet him in the app: he welcomes you, cheers a finished lesson and tells you when Kru Pook has replied.
How old do you have to be?
13 or over for an account. Under 16, the app never keeps your recordings and Kru Pook can't listen to them; the pitch line still works on your own device. Under 18, you can read the community but not post. Full detail in the privacy policy.
Is Thai on Duolingo?
No. Duolingo doesn’t offer Thai. Ravela is built for Thai specifically, with the tone marked on every word and a Lab that shows your pitch against a native reference.

You can start free with no card: the first lesson of every course and daily Pronunciation Lab recordings. Membership unlocks everything.
How much is membership?

Do I need to read Thai script?
No. Every word comes with romanisation, its tone marked, and audio. When you’re ready, you can learn to read and write all 44 consonants.
How does the tone checker work?
You record a word and Ravela draws your pitch line over a native reference, with a band showing how close you need to be. You get plain notes on direction and height. The aim is to be understood, not to be perfect.
