Our story

We built the Thai app we couldn’t find

It started at a dinner table, with a lot of smiling and nodding — and no idea what anyone was saying.

“I started learning Thai the normal way — private lessons, because my friends and family speak it and I was tired of smiling and nodding at the dinner table. The lessons were great. The problem was everything between them. I’d learn something on Tuesday and lose it by Friday, and not one app could tell me the thing that actually matters in Thai — that my tones were wrong. They all just taught me to tap.”

How Ravela happened

The dinner table

Friends and family who speak Thai, and a growing frustration with being the one who couldn’t join in. Euan started private lessons to fix it.

The gap between lessons

The lessons were great — but everything learned on Tuesday was gone by Friday. And no app could hear the one thing that changes meaning in Thai: the tones. They all just rewarded tapping the right box.

Teacher meets tech

Euan’s tutor, Pook, knew exactly how Thai should be taught. Euan knew how to build. So they built the app they both wished existed — she brought the teaching, he brought the tech.

The tone coach

The feature every other app skipped became the heart of Ravela: real-time tone feedback that hears your voice and shows you whether you’re right — on day one, not year one.

Ravela today

A full Thai learning app — native audio, an AI tutor, real-world missions and spaced review — built around actually speaking, and kept consistent between lessons. Still built by two people learning right alongside you.

Why “Ravela”?

Speak · Learn · Connect. Language isn’t about streaks or points — it’s about being able to sit at that dinner table and actually join in. Everything in Ravela points at that one moment: the first time real Thai comes out of your mouth and someone understands you.
